Description
Painted on an oval canvas, this bouquet of voluminous peonies has
qualities of the specialized botanical painters of the 15th and 16th
centuries. Imitating the great masters even in its oval shape, the highly
decorative imagery, with its burst of colors, makes it a perfect piece to
hang on any wall. The composition is beautifully balanced into a solid
line of flowers with powerful colors exploding like fireworks over a lake.
The purple backdrop adds to this exploding image bringing the flowers
forward while reflecting their light as if they were over some water
entity. Every bloom is given special care, and all are painted empirically.
The orange peonies are delicately brushed on the canvas. Their petals
are so precious one could almost imagine looking at butterfly wings. The
coral bloom is so softly painted that it nearly gets lost between the
predominant baby pink peonies. These are well-defined with sharp
contours for an almost scientific look. The green leaves add to the
contrast rendering with flair the effortless beauty of nature. The calming
charm of the subject and the soft yet powerful light emanating from it
will no doubt conquer any collector’s heart.
